The Accelerated Apprenticeship Program is a 20-week intensive training initiative
aimed at preparing recent high school graduates and individuals entering the
skilled trades. Designed to bridge the gap between education and
employment, this program provides students with the foundational knowledge,
hands-on experience, and certifications necessary for successful careers in
construction and other related trades. By combining in-class training with real-
world work placement, the program equips participants with the essential skills
to succeed in the construction industry.
Program Breakdown:
12-Week In-Class Training:
Students will engage in a structured curriculum that provides both
theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for careers in the skilled
trades. Key training components include:
o Hand Tools & Power Tools: Safe use of tools commonly used in
carpentry and construction.
o Welding: Basic welding techniques and safety practices.
o Hoisting and Rigging Awareness: Safety protocols for lifting and
moving materials using hoists and rigging equipment.
o Math & Geometry: Application of math and geometry for
construction tasks, such as measurements and angles.
o Joint Frames & Scaffolding: Techniques for building and dismantling
scaffolding, focusing on safety and stability.
o Concrete & Interior Systems: Introduction to concrete work, framing,

Certifications and Training:
Upon successful completion of in-class training, students will receive
several certifications, including:
o Level One "Basic" 403 A Certification in General Carpentry: MLITSD
approved curriculum and course accreditable to the General
Carpentry 403A apprenticeship.
o Comprehensive Scaffold Training: Participants will gain important
training in scaffold safety, hazard awareness, and an introduction to
scaffold erection and dismantling procedures.
o Safety Certifications : working at heights, confined space
awareness, workers health and safety in 4 steps, WHMIS.
o Additional certifications in budgeting, mentorship, mental health
awareness, and other essential workplace skills.
8-Week Work Placement:
After the classroom training, students will complete an 8-week hands-on
work placement with industry partners. During this placement, students
will:
o Apply the skills learned in class to real-world projects.
o Gain valuable experience, working alongside skilled tradespeople.
o Build professional relationships and expand their industry network.
Program Outcomes:
Upon completion of the Accelerated Apprenticeship Program, students will:
Be prepared for entry-level positions in the skilled trades with skills in

in General Carpentry and Comprehensive Scaffold Training, improving
their employability.
Have gained 8 weeks of hands-on work experience, ensuring they are job-
ready upon completion.
This program is designed to fast-track students into the skilled trades workforce,
offering a pathway to long-term careers in construction, carpentry, scaffolding,
and more. The combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training
ensures students are prepared for success in the trades.

This program provides an excellent opportunity for school boards to support
students as they transition from high school into the skilled trades workforce,
helping to develop a skilled, capable, and confident next generation of
workers.
